At God's Children Adoption Agency, Inc. we believe the financial burden of adoption should never stand in the way of bringing a child home. Below are some of the many resources available to adoptive families:

Tax Credits:
You may be able to take a tax credit for qualifying expenses paid to adopt an eligible child. The adoption tax credit is an amount you subtract from your tax liability. Information on Federal Tax Credit may be found through your tax advisor.

Subsidies and reimbursements for children with special needs:
To facilitate the adoption of special needs children, states often provide reimbursements for adoption expenses, as well as, monthly subsidies. The criteria used to classify a child as special needs varies from state to state, but generally includes children that are older, children with disabilities and/or sibling groups. Qualifying adoption expenses include home study fees, travel expenses and attorney fees. Most states have a limit on the amount of reimbursements per child. Federal and state adoption subsidies may also be available to adoptive families to help pay for the ongoing care of children with special physical, mental or emotional needs. In addition, some children qualify for Supplemental Security Income or Medicaid coverage. It is important to apply for these benefits, if applicable, before you finalize your adoption.

Employer Benefits:
Many employers provide benefits for adoptive families including paid or unpaid leave when the child arrives home and/or assistance with the adoption expenses. Check with your employer's personnel department for any benefits offered.

Adoption Loans and Grants:
There are many excellent grants offered to adoptive families to offset some of the costs involved with adoption. These programs have specific requirements regarding the type of adoption they will support and/or income limits of the adoptive family. Applications for these grants and loans should be made throughout the home study process. Ask us about a resource listing of available grants and loans.

Community Support:
A representative from God's Children Adoption Agency, Inc. would welcome an opportunity to address your church, civic organization or support group about the process of adoption and the financial burdens involved. Many families hold fund-raising events to finance their adoption.
